The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) has distributed educational materials worth hundreds of Cedis to some fifteen schools within the Municipality.
The distribution, made through the Education Office of the Assembly also saw the distribution of one thousand one hundred and ninety (1,190) school uniforms of various sizes, twenty thousand (20,000) reusable nose masks and three hundred and sixty (360) dual desks.
Handing over the items to the Municipal Director of Education, the Municipal Chief Executive, Boye Laryea said the gesture is part of measures by the government to help teaching and learning in schools in the Municipality.
He stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo prioritizes education and as a result directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE’s) to prioritize matters of education this year.
Mr. Laryea assured that more resources will be provided to schools in the Municipality.
“These are not all the things we are expecting, we thought we could do more but because school reopening came all of a sudden, we thought we should give them the little we have to go and start school… “
The ONMA MCE disclosed as a way of fighting Covid-19 all the desks will be sanitized before classes begin every day adding “Sanitizers are on the way and we are sure by next week we should be able to receive them and distribute it to the schools.”
He urged the students to take good care of the desks, take care of themselves and put the nose masks to good use.
Receiving the items, Mrs. Cynthia Aboni, the Municipal Education Officer said her outfit is grateful to the Assembly for the release of the items.
She said desks are one of the crucial needs of schools in the Municipality and views the donation as a way to solving that challenge.
While promising to use the items for the intended purpose, Mrs. Aboni expressed gratitude to the Assembly for it’s constant assistance to the office.
Ms. Redeamer Dogbe, a student at the Tesano 1 Junior High School (JHS) and one of the beneficiary students expressed gratitude to the Assembly and assured that the items will be put to judicious use.
Other beneficiary schools are: Achimota Basic School, Anummle Basic School, Aggrey Basic School, Immaculate Conception R/C Basic School, Nii Boi Town SDA Basic School, Alogboshie 1 And Basic Schools, Abeka Presby KG/ Primary School, Abeka Basic 1 and 2 Schools and Answarudeen Islamic Basic School.
