Don’t Sell ‘Relief’ Items- ONMA MCE Advices PWD’s

The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive has advised Persons living with Disabilities (PWD’s) in the Municipality to desist from selling support items donated to them.
According to Honourable Boye Laryea, the situation where beneficiaries sold items received instead of putting them to good economic use is wrong.
Honourable Laryea stated that it was necessary to use received items for the intended purposes.
The Okaikwei North MCE gave the advice during the distribution of assorted items worth thousands of Cedis to PWD’s in the Municipality.
He disclosed that plans are underway to increase the allocation for PWD’s from 3 to 5 percent to indicate the government’s commitment to PWD’s in the country.
The gesture is part of government’s efforts to make the beneficiaries financially independent in the municipality.
The beneficiaries received items including financial boosts, cosmetics, second hand cloths, deep freezers, fridges among others.
Others received educational support worth thousands of cedis to pay their school fees in various tertiary intuitions in the country.
Madam Grace Benson, the Head of the Social Welfare And Community Development of the Assembly assured that beneficiaries who put their items to good use would be considered for other disbursements in future.
Gilbert Osafo, a leading member of the Ghana Federation for the Disabled tasked the beneficiaries to shun selling the items because such actions are punishable by law.
