Explore Other Business Opportunities-MCE Urges PWDs

The Chief Executive of Okaikwei North Municipality has urged Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Municipality to explore other business opportunities in the area. According to him, it’s about time the beneficiaries of fridges and other items from the government changed the narrative. In the view of Hon. Laryea, the PWDs could form Associations, groups or cooperatives and go into the production of Fruit Juices and other Beverages for commercial purposes. Hon. Laryea assured that the Assembly would also assist the PWDs with ready markets for their produce.

He made the disclosure at the presentation of items and undisclosed amount of money to some PWDs in the Municipality. Hon. Laryea noted that sometimes the beneficiaries receive items they do not really have use for some of the items they receive or even do not have places to keep them, thereby inconveniencing  them. Mary Kaade Kafari, a member of the Social Welfare Department in the Municipality said the items being distributed to the beneficiaries is because of their children. She cautioned them to use the items for its intended purpose and use monies accrued from the equipment judiciously. Mrs. Kafari tasked the parents to protect their children from rape and defilement as the case is on the ascendancy. She noted that the kids who fall victims to the rape and defilement are often lured with, yoghurt,  toffees and biscuits.

The Chairman of the Disability Fund,  Joshua Addy said the fund set for the PWDs is to serve as business capital for them. He stressed that sometimes the beneficiaries receive the items just to decorate their homes only to return to the streets to beg for Alms. Earlier, Bright Anin Larbi, a member of the Municipality’s National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) urged the PWDs on the need to register their SIM cards with their Ghana Cards.
