The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive has handed over site to the contractor, First Sky Limited for the take-off of the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project in the Municipality.
The handing over is a prelude to the official sod cutting of the GH¢95 million project scheduled for December 12, 2023.
Speaking at the ceremony in Accra, the Municipal Chief Executive of Okaikwei North Municipality Hon. Boye Laryea was optimistic everyone will play his part to see the fruition of the project.
He stated that everybody compensated in respect of the project must make way for the start of the project.
Hon. Laryea expressed the hope to see the smooth take off of the project without any hitches.
Dr. Kwadwo Ohene Sarfoh the Project Coordinator said all is set for the take-off of the project.
He said all compensations have been paid with the Contractor submitting all the guarantees
“From today, the contractor is fully responsible for the site, the contract is for 15 months and we will not see Alogboshie the same way again.”
Dr. Charles Afetornu, the Technical Director to the Contractors assured that the company will live to its expectation in executing the project.
He hinted that the project will be completed ahead of schedule, adding “this is the assurance we give to the community and we also expect team work; together we can get there.”
Nii Kumah, Chief of Alogboshie was elated his community is going to benefit from the project and was grateful for the project.
Present at the ceremony were the Municipal Coordinating Director, officials of the Development and Physical Planning Departments of the Assembly, Assembly Members and other members of staff of the Assembly and the contractor.
The project when completed among other things is expected to improve the drainage system, water supply system, street lighting system, create employment and see the upgrade of the entire Alogboshie community.
GARID is the first in a series of projects designed to build the resilience of the national capital with the initial phase covering a five-year period, from 2020 to 2025.
Funded by the World Bank, the programme has been designed to address most challenges, especially, in the targeted flood-prone vulnerable communities in the country.
