GENDER DESK SECRETARIAT ORGANISES GENDER BIAS WORKSHOP IN ONMA

The Gender Desk Secretariat of Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) has orgainised a workshop to explain the differences and the importance of gender equality to staff.

The meeting highlighted on some common differences between women and men in our communities.

The Gender Desk Secretariat said, Imagine a gender equal world, A world free of bias towards women, a world that is diverse equitable and inclusion,

A world where difference is valued and solidated together we can forge women equality.

Collectively we can all break the barrier, individually we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions and break the barriers in our communities, we can all break the barriers in our work places.

We can break the barriers in our schools, colleges, together we can all break the barriers.

Speaking on the theme for the day, “Break the bias: The life of the corporate woman and man”, The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), for Okaikwei North, hon. Boye Laryea explained to staff, “I don’t think we have any contention as human beings against women, so who is doing the bias?, is it the men or the women, there must be clarity somewhere”.

In any case if the women are saying there is some king of bias against them, are they not themselves enemies, we are living with them in our offices, where women themselves are fighting, when a little post is given to a woman what they do to their subordinates is not good, hon. Boye Laryea stressed.

So please there should be some kind of understanding, I want to know who is doing the bias against who.

The MCE believes that even in our various homes we are not living well with each other, the kind of treatment women gives to their house helps are sometimes not appropriate.

Please choose the right words for specific themes, so that all of us will understand and follow the agenda.

He also expressed worries in the churches, he stated, the church is where we all worship God and seeks salvation but go there and see what is happening there “ women against women in the churches we all know that”.

From day one as you started with the theme for this meeting I have been thinking, but women knows that men takes  care of them, except those who are not ready to help themselves, the MCE added.

Present at the meeting were, municipal coordinating director, staff of Okaikwei north and some invited guests.
