The Municipal Chief Executive of Okaikwei North Assembly, Hon. Boye Laryea entreat all people in the municipality to make themselves available for the upcoming national population and housing census.
Speaking at the inauguration of the eight-member Population Census Committee at the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Hon. Boye Laryea stated that he strongly believe the inauguration of this committee will provide the opportunity for the Municipality to plan and successfully implement the 2020 Population Housing Census (PHC). The outcome of the Census will in no doubt improve the procedure for policy making in the Municipality.
The Population Housing Census exercise is slated to take place on 28th of June to 15th of July 2020.
The inauguration was held at Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Tesano- Accra, on the 14th February 2020.
Present at the inauguration were, the Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Samuel Amoah, the Presiding Member Hon. Nii Odai Abdullah, Head of Statistics for Okaikwei North Mr. Joel Derry.
At the meeting, the Presiding Member for Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Hon. Nii Odai Abdullah swore in the (8) member committee that will ensure a smooth census exercise in the municipality.
According to Hon. Boye, the United Nations recommend that every country should endeavour to undertake a population census every ten years. A Population and Housing Census is an indispensable governance tool, required to ensure that good governance and democracy works for all.
He told all present at the meeting, in a strategic move to improve the timelines of the census results, it is expected that the Assembly, Chiefs and the People in the district support every effort the Ghana Statistical Services will make in this regard.
Hon. Boye encouraged the various stakeholders, that is, the Assembly, the Chiefs, people, and opinion leaders to work together to ensure a successful census. Again, he urged all people in the Municipality to avail themselves for the 2020 census, especially during the field enumeration.
Hon. Boye Laryea hastily added that as a reminder, the Municipal Census Implementation Committee (MCIC) members inaugurated today, have a great responsibility ahead of them since the success of the census in this municipality depends on the extent to which they diligently execute their tasks in collaboration with the four – member Municipal Technical Team.
Therefore, the success of the census will be attributed to their commitment to duty and the seriousness attached to this very important assignment.
