Okaikwei North Marks Int’l Women’s Day With Health Screening

The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly joined hundreds of women in the Municipality to celebrate the International Women’s Day with a health screening exercise. The event organized by the TM Foundation in collaboration with the Assembly through its women’s League saw women sensitized on various issues affecting them with a focus on ‘innovation and technology’. The free health screening was conducted by doctors and nurses from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Noble Trust Herbal Clinic and other private hospitals. Participants were screened for breast cancer, liver, sugar level, kidney among others. The program dubbed “innovation and technology for gender equality hashtag embrace equality,” was attended by women and students in all diverse career fields, especially women in technology to sensitize and inspire young women so they can help break the bias. Later in a discussion session, three- member professionals in technology from Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT and final-year students in ICT from the University of Ghana engaged the participants. The team elaborated on how technology can be used by traders to package their wares properly to attract buyers, Prospective buyers were given some indicators of a good product including observing ratings and comments from previous users and customers before visiting homepages of products of companies to avoid fraud. The team further discussed some major programs in ICT that can equip women to be employable in the technology business namely data analysis, programming and many more. Earlier in a message, Nana Yaa Konadu Founder of the Foundation and Staff of Accra based Radio Station, Peace FM noted that, this year’s theme is focused on technology and is aimed at students, entrepreneurs, SMEs, the unemployed especially women in using technology to create employment. She encouraged all women to support and embrace ICT since it is here to stay and enroll in short courses to equip themselves since there is so much employment in the field. There were other solidarity messages from stakeholders and women in leadership positions.
