The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has urged Assembly Members in the Municipality to account for their stewardship to the electorates.
This, Honorable Boye Laryea said is the surest way to secure their re-election bid in the upcoming District Level Elections (DLEs).
Presenting his Executive Committee report to the General Assembly on Thursday indicated that the Assembly would be dissolved in some few weeks.
“Honorable Assembly Members, in the very near future, this Assembly would be dissolved in view of the fact that this is your very last Assembly Meeting” he said.
Hon. Laryea continued: “You would have to go and account your stewardship to the people and I wish you would be able to pass the test of time to come back to continue with the good work we all started together. I wish you the very best of luck.”
He thanked the Members for their hard work and dedicated services rendered to the Assembly.
The Electoral Commission has set December 19, 2023 for the District Level Elections (DLEs) to elect Assembly and Unit Committee members for the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the country.
The election will take place in 6,272 electoral areas and 38,622 polling stations nationwide in 259 districts out of a total of 261.
The DLEs are held every four years and take place a year before the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Since 1988, Ghana has had eight successive local-level elections to engender greater citizen participation in the process.
Section six of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940, provided that DLEs should be held every four years, with an interval between the DLEs and the Presidential and Parliamentary elections being at least six months apart.
