The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Boye Laryea together with the district Coordinator (Samuel Amoah) met with the Community Police Assistants (CPA) on Monday the 18th of March, 2019 for a brief meeting and distribution of uniforms.
During the meeting, the Hon. MCE, explained to them the importance of having a leader which he said allows easy dissemination of information to its members. He ensured the CPAs chose the right people to become their leaders. Out of this, four (4) leaders were chosen for the various communities, that is, the Tesano Community Police Assistant headed by Mr. Kweku Joseph, Mile 7 Community Police Assistant, Achimota Community Police Assistant headed by Mrs. Abiba Ali and the Lapaz Container Community Police Assistant led by Mr. Richard Ntiamoah.
The distribution of the uniforms was done by the MCE to each Police Assistant after which he urged them to desist from taking bribes. He asked them to behave well and not emulate the negative habits of some police officers. He encouraged them not to be deterred by the little allowances they were being paid but rather, they could be recruited to main stream policing if they impress the assembly and government as a whole.
The Community Police Assistants also addressed the issue of delay of payments of their allowances and pleaded to the Hon. MCE to assist in fast tracking it. The Municipal coordinator in response, tasked them to download the mobile money app which will be used as a medium of the payment of their allowance. He made it known to them that the Assembly needs six (6) more Police Assistants and selection would be based on good behavior and hard work.
