OKAIKWEI NORTH MCE TO TIGHTEN SECURITY AHEAD OF CHRISTMAS

The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive says steps are underway to tighten the security of the Municipality ahead of the Christmas festivities. Honourable Boye Laryea Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) disclosed that the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) would visit certain areas with security challenges because Christmas is fast approaching. The MCE hinted that a team “will be visiting a lot of places to eject a lot of criminals”. Honourable Laryea who was speaking at the General Assembly meeting said he will be visiting Electoral Areas to fix faulty street lights in the communities. This, he said, has become necessary because “I want to do this one at night because I will be fixing the street lights, this time I am not going to give it to the Assembly members…” he noted. Honourable Laryea continued: “I am coming to audit the street lights, we will replace and repair those that we have to.” Mr. Laryea warned that residents who mount road blocks for social events without permit from the Assembly will not be spared. He said the culprits will be prosecuted and made to pay the approved fines by the Assembly. Mrs. Cecilia Ofori-Asante, the Municipal Budget Analyst said the outfit in conjunction with the other units and departments has put in place measures, include maintaining some 2022 fees for the year  2023. She said the people in the Municipality have been complaining about the high fees and rates of the Assembly. Mrs. Ofori-Asante said the Assembly must consider assisting the appropriate unit to procure an efficient billing system in order to have the bills printed on time for distribution. She disclosed that all churches within the Municipality will soon be registered adding that all food vendors will also be medically screened and certificates issued to them. The Okaikwei North Municipality Budget Analyst said poor address system, inadequate data for revenue mobilisation, inadequate training for revenue collectors among others are some of the challenges militating against the revenue mobilisation drive of the Assembly. Present at the meeting was Heads of Departments, staff and Assembly Members.
