The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) on Sunday joined the world to celebrate World Malaria Day.
The 2021 Celebration is on the Theme “Zero Malaria- Draw The Line Against Malaria’.
In an address, Dr Nana Ama Ajabeng, the Municipal Health Director stated that, this year’s celebration is aimed at reaching Zero malaria cases through educating and sensitizing the community on the causes, effects and prevention of malaria to make the society healthy for all.
The Malaria Control Coordinator also explained that malaria poses a threat to society which causes an Increase in poverty, delay in development and affects the education of children.
Mr Boye Laryea the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in a keynote address urged the community to achieve the goal of the celebration by recording zero malaria in the community.
He stated that they should avoid self medication but rather visit the nearest hospital to test for malaria before treatment
Joyce Boatemaa Yeboah the Malaria Control Coordinator of the Municipality outlined some symptoms of the disease which include, Fever, vomiting and nausea.
She indicated that the malaria parasite can be prevented by sleeping under mosquito nets, keeping the gutters clean, avoiding littering and mass fumigation of gutters.
April 25th every year has been set aside worldwide to educate people on the causes,effects and prevention of malaria.
