As part of the agenda to make Accra clean and instill the habit of good sanitation practice, The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) has undertaken a clean up exercise across the Municipality.
Some of the places include Apenkwa, Blemagor, Wuoyeman, Olengele-Koona and Abeka lapaz.
The team focused on the streets, choked gutters, market places, lorry stations and residential compounds.
Speaking at the program, Boniface Ashalley, ONMA Municipal Environmental Health Officer who took part in the exercise explained that the clean up exercise was in line with the government’s vision of ensuring a safe environment and good practice to prevent communicable diseases.
He said the expectations of the exercise is for all participants especially shop owners not to take the clean up exercise as a nine day wonder but as their daily routine,
Mr. Ashalley stated that it is a shared responsibility between individuals and government so they should all get involved.
Some Assembly Members including Patrick Awuku Assembly Member for Wuoyeman, Ibrahim Seide Nkrumah, Assembly Member for Olengele-Koona took part in the exercise.
They took turns to add their voices to calls that the exercise is part of measures by the Municipal Assembly to ensure a clean environment and encourage good hygiene behaviors.
