ONMA SENSITIZES THE PUBLIC ON BREAST CANCER

On Tuesday October 27 2020, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Boye Laryea of Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) lead a team from Achimota Hospital to sensitize the public on breast cancer at Achimota, within the Achimota Electoral area with a call on women to endeavor to have their breast examined frequently. The total attendants was 39, which 7 were males, representing 18% and 32 were females representing 82% respectively.

In delivering the address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon Boye Laryea urged the men to examine the breasts of their spouses frequently as well as encourage them to visit health facilities when they notice changes in their breast.
Early detection he said helps to save lives. “All women should ensure to visit the hospitals at least twice a year to have their breasts examined,” he said.

The Municipal Health directorate, Dr Nana Ama Adjabeng mentioned;
• Sharp pain in the chest
• Discharge of fluid from the breast
• Lump in the breast as some of the symptoms of breast cancer.
She took the women through the process of examining the breast by themselves.
Some of the questions asked were;
• What will be the result if the breast cancer is not treated early?
• Can the fondling of the breast by the male partners prevent breast cancer?
• What are the symptoms of breast cancer?
• Does the food we eat contribute to getting breast cancer?
• If you do not breastfeed a baby does it have anything to do with breast cancer?
Dr. responded to all the questions.
October is commemorated every year as breast cancer awareness month worldwide.
