Parochial Interests Out! -Hon. Boye Laryea Tells Unit C’tte Members

Fifty-five (55) Unit Committee Members have been sworn into office by the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly with a call on them to pursue the progress and development of the Assembly.

The elected Members from Okaikwei North and Central Constituencies were sworn into office by His Worship Prince Osei Owusu, the Achimota District Court Magistrate at a ceremony in Accra on Thursday April 18, 2024.

The members took the oaths of Allegiance and Secrecy to usher them into office.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive Honourable, Boye Laryea cautioned the Unit Committee members against acts that are beyond their remits.

He stated “More often than not when such positions are given to us, we see ourselves as big men and do things which do not help the Assembly and the citizens. If you look around just when the Assembly members were elected, metal containers and kiosks are springing up all over the place.”

Honourable Laryea continued: “I don’t think you are also going to add to the problem, please, you don’t have any right to do those things, very soon we are going to deal with those issues.”

The Okaikwei North MCE reminded the members of their mandate stressing “You are the local people in the local governance structure and your role is very essential, you are coming to help the Assembly to grow; don’t think that you have the power to do those things, if for any reason you want to help anybody, please come to the Assembly…”

Honourable Laryea stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to develop Ghana because “This is our country and we don’t have any other country to develop, advise the Assembly Members that they are making the country filthy, very soon we will go after these people.”

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Mensah urged the members to familiarize themselves with the procedures of the Assembly.

He stated that the members will be trained to know their duties and responsibilities and that there is the also the need for the members to know the Acts and the Laws that govern their activities.

Present at the ceremony were Assembly Members, Secretaries of the Abeka and Achimota Zonal Councils, Heads of Department and as well as the relatives of the Unit Committee Members.
