Tesano Palace Hostel Manager In Court For Discharging Effluent Into Public Drain

A staff of Tesano Palace Hostel has been arraigned before the Achimota District Court for discharging effluent into a public drain in the Okaikwei North Municipality.
The accused, Elijah Nsekpa was hauled before the court after an arrest by officers of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly Environmental Health Department and the Police.
The first accused-the Manager of the facility was not in court on Thursday when the case was called for hearing.
Appearing in a court presided over by Her Worship Ama Adomah Kwaakye, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge as preferred against him by the prosecution led by Delight Djansi.
Elijah was accordingly convicted on his own plea.
The trial Magistrate however, deferred sentencing until Thursday August 31, 2023 for the said nuisance to be abated.
Elijah who was represented by his lawyer-Joseph Twum-Barimah was subsequently admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢5,000 with one surety.
Prosecuting, Ms. Djansi told the court that the accused operates the said hostel facility located at Tesano.
She said routine inspection conducted on the facility by a team of Environmental Health Officers on August 9th 2023 revealed that the accused persons were deliberately discharging their septic tank effluent through a PVC pipe into their frontage public drain emitting very offensive odour, a situation likely to be injurious to health.
The court further heard that the attention of the mangers of the facility was drawn through the convict and a statutory notice was served on him within 24 hours to dislodge the tank, remove the pipes and seal all openings.
She stated that a re-inspection on August 23, 2023 revealed that the nuisance is still in existence leading to the arrest of Elijah.
