TWO PERSONS CHARGED BY THE ABEKA DISTRICT COURT FOR DISPOSING WASTE INTO PUBLIC DRAIN.
The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly District Court charged two persons for discharging effluent into
public drain.
The two, Elizabeth Aboagye landlady and Frank Ebo Rockson a contractor were both charged under section 56 s5 (a) and (b) of the Act 851, Public Health Act 2012.
The counts are as follow;
Count 1- Elizabeth Aboagye: “discharging effluent, that is, septic tank content into public drain contrary to section 56 s5 (a) and (b) of Act 851, Public Health Act 2012.”
Count 2 – Frank Ebo Rockson: “discharging effluent, that is, septic tank content into public drain contrary to section 56 s5 (a) and (b) of Act 851, Public Health Act 201.”
According to the court, on the 18th of August 2020, a community member lodged complaint at the Municipal Environmental Health Department concerning a neighbour who has been discharging effluent into public drain which pollutes the environment with bad odour.
The Environmental Health officers made a follow up on the complaint and discovered that Frank Ebo Rockson has fixed pumping machine in an inspection chamber that discharges its content through a PVC into a public drain in front of Elizabeth Aboagye’s premises.
The two appeared in court on the 19th of August 2020. However, they pleaded not guilty. The case was adjourned to 10th September 2020.
