The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Honourable Christian Tetteh Badger, has pledged to deepen decentralization, expand access to education, and improve healthcare delivery, as part of a broader strategic vision to accelerate local development.
Delivering his sessional address at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Third Assembly, Hon. Badger emphasized community participation as central to his governance approach.
“We will engage communities directly through traditional leaders, religious leaders, and opinion leaders in both planning and implementation. The Assembly must be a living platform for civic inclusiveness and accountability, not a closed bureaucratic institution,” he said.
The MCE among other things highlighted education as the bedrock of the municipality’s future, noting that youth and children constitute the majority of the population.
“Our strategic vision aligns with the President’s agenda to revamp educational infrastructure, promote digital literacy, and expand vocational training. We will work to see the construction of an additional Senior High School in Okaikwei Central,” he stated.
On health, Hon. Badger decried the persistence of preventable diseases and promised renewed commitment to community health services.
He also vowed to complete stalled health projects and ensure the proper functioning of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the municipality.
“We will champion the President’s agenda, including the timely release of NHIS funds and the successful implementation of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Care), especially for the vulnerable — persons with disabilities, the aged, and women,” he affirmed.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Daniel Dzadey, in his remarks, welcomed members to the meeting and expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him by the Assembly. He congratulated Hon. Badger on his confirmation and called on Assembly Members to align themselves with the President’s Reset Agenda by adopting a renewed mindset and work ethic.
Hon. Dzadey also called for prompt payment of Assembly Members’ sitting allowances to support their efforts.
Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Mrs. Theresa Lardi Awuni, was also in attendance and urged the Assembly staff to set aside partisan interests and work in unity for the development of the municipality.
The event saw the formation of the various Sub-Committees of the Assembly namely: Justice And Security, Social Services, Finance And Administration, Development Planning, Works Sub-Committee and Electoral Area And Welfare Committee.
The meeting was graced by Mr. Francis Mensah, the Municipal Coordinating Director, (MCD), Traditional Leaders, Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, and other dignitaries.
