Okaikwei North Assembly Staff Undergo Free Eye Screening Exercise.

More than 100 staff members of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly have benefited from a two-day free eye screening exercise aimed at promoting workplace health and enhancing productivity.

The exercise, held from Thursday July 31 to Friday August 1, 2025, was organized by the Assembly’s Human Resource Department in collaboration with Fine Vision Optical Services. It formed part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to improve employee well-being and efficiency.

Speaking during the exercise, Madam Sefia Salifu, Senior Human Resource Manager of the Assembly, emphasized the importance of regular eye check-ups, particularly for aging staff.

She noted that there is a strong link between eye health and staff performance.

Madam Sefia explained that many eye conditions such as glaucoma progress silently and can impair vision if left undiagnosed adding that with staff growing older, such interventions become even more crucial.

The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly Senior Human Resource Manager added that the nature of daily administrative duties places considerable strain on the eyes, making routine screening necessary.

She however, advised staff to prioritize their eye health and seek medical attention promptly when issues arise.

Dr. Philip Boakye, the Coordinator of Outreach Services of Fine Vision Optical Services explained that the screening covered a range of conditions including glaucoma, cataracts, allergies, dry eyes, and refractive errors.

He stated that the exercise was also helpful for people about forty years with a difficulty in reading

“Many people wait until it’s too late before seeking help. This initiative helps detect problems early. For those already using corrective lenses, we encourage them to maintain their treatment and return for periodic reviews,” he said.

The two-day exercise saw other Doctors like Abdul Aziz Mohammed and Andrews Agyei taking turns to address the concerns of staff

Also participating in the eye screening exercise were National Service personnel and some Assembly Members.
