The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, has charged newly deployed Community Police Assistants to be visible in their communities and actively prevent crime, rather than waiting to respond after offences occur.
Speaking at a ceremony at the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) to welcome the recruits, Hon. Badger expressed gratitude to the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, the YEA Director, Alhaji Osman Mamoud, and the Assembly’s Presiding Member, Mr. Daniel Dzadey, for their contributions to the initiative.
“This is a turning point in your lives and a test case for government,” Hon. Badger told the recruits.
“Your conduct will help drive the reset agenda of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The police should not hide and wait for people to commit offences before making arrests. You must be present and proactive so that lawbreakers think twice before jumping traffic lights or engaging in crime.”
The MCE pledged to ensure cleaner communities, uphold respect for traditional leaders, and engage religious institutions to strengthen the Assembly’s reputation.
The YEA Director for ONMA, Alhaji Osman Mamoud, assured the recruits of support and future career opportunities.
He revealed that Community Police Assistants would be given priority in future recruitment into the Ghana Police Service.
“With the backing of our MP, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, we will do everything possible to see you advance into the main Police Service,” he said.
Presiding Member of the Assembly Honourable Daniel Dzadey described the recruitment as a “dream come true” and urged the recruits to uphold discipline and professionalism.
“Embrace this opportunity, make us proud, and avoid misconduct that could end your service prematurely,” he advised.
