The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North, Honourable Christian Tetteh Badger, has spearheaded a targeted revenue mobilization exercise aimed at recovering outstanding arrears from businesses and car dealers operating within the municipality

The operation, conducted across major commercial hubs in Apenkwa, Tesano, and Lapaz, targeted companies with long-standing defaults in the payment of ground rent and Business Operating Permit (B.O.P) fees. The initiative is part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to boost Internally Generated Funds (IGF) for critical developmental projects.

Crackdown on Defaulters

During the exercise, the Assembly’s task team visited several businesses, including:

  • Star Oil (Lapaz)
  • Amiropa Motors
  • K&K Motors
  • DeGeorgia Motors & Spare Parts Limited
  • Sam Motors
  • Atabegro Motors
  • Alex’s Motors
  • Dependable Motors
  • Chatel Motors
  • Wasla Motors

Other companies inspected included Dbanka Motors, Richard Nana Donkor Motors, El-Wahab Transport Limited, and Kofco Car Centre, among others.

MCE Stresses Compliance, Not Harassment

Addressing the media during the operation, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger clarified that the exercise was not intended to intimidate businesses but to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.

“We are not here to harass any business but to enforce compliance and remind all stakeholders of their civic responsibilities,” he stated.

The MCE emphasized that the revenue collected would be channeled into infrastructure development, sanitation improvements, and other essential services to enhance living standards in Okaikwei North.

Strengthening Stakeholder Engagement

Hon. Badger reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to engaging businesses constructively to promote voluntary compliance and foster a business-friendly environment.

“Our goal is to work with enterprises to ensure they meet their obligations while supporting their growth. A thriving business community means a stronger municipality,” he added.

Task Team Composition

The revenue mobilization team included:

  • Mr. Francis K. Mensah – Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD)
  • Mrs. Akorfa Adu-Gamadeku – Municipal Finance Officer (MFO)
  • Officers from the Revenue Department and Physical Planning Unit
  • Security personnel to ensure order

The exercise underscores the Assembly’s resolve to improve fiscal discipline while maintaining a collaborative approach with local businesses.
