Dr. Nafisa Mummy Issifu Alhassan

Dr. Nafisa Mummy Issifu Alhassan serves as the Municipal Director of Health Service for Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly. A committed public health professional and medical doctor, she brings extensive experience in health management and clinical practice. Her tenure in public service has been marked by innovative leadership and operational excellence.

Dr. Alhassan holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, an MBA in Health Services Management from the University of Ghana, and both MBChB and BSc degrees in Human Biology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) accredited by the Project Management Institute.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Alhassan led health service delivery in Ablekuma Central Municipal as the Health Director and Abokobi Health Centre as the Head of facility. Her notable achievement is consistently improving access to quality healthcare including underserved communities.

Her leadership continues to play a vital role in promoting health systems strengthening and ensuring effective healthcare delivery across the municipality.

Key Responsibilities of the Health Directorate in Okaikwei North Municipal

  • Implement National Health Policies: Translate and execute approved health policies within the municipality.
  • Ensure Universal Health Coverage (UHC): Work toward affordable and accessible healthcare for all, especially underserved populations.

  • Deliver Curative and Preventive Services: Provide basic healthcare services, including mental health, maternal and child health, and disease control.
  • Promote Public Health: Lead health education campaigns, promote healthy lifestyles, and enforce workplace health policies.
  • Strengthen Disease Surveillance: Monitor and respond to health emergencies- including both communicable and non-communicable diseases- through data-driven strategies.
  • Manage Health Resources: Oversee financial and human resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Monitor and Evaluate Health Services: Supervise health facilities and assess the quality and effectiveness of healthcare delivery
  • Coordinate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and community groups to improve health outcomes.
