Mr. Joel Dery is the Head of the Transport Department at the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly. He joined the Assembly in 2018 and has served as the Head of the Transport Department since 2019. He has served in various capacities in the transport sector.
Mr. Dery holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Financial Risk Management, with specialized training in transport systems, logistics, and municipal mobility planning.
What We Do (Department’s Core Responsibilities)
The Transport Department is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and sustainable movement of people and vehicles within the municipality. The department also oversees the management of the Assembly’s fleet and contributes to urban mobility planning in line with national transport policy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and managing the Assembly’s fleet and vehicle logistics,
- Developing and implementing urban transport strategies and traffic management systems,
- Enforcing transport-related by-laws and ensuring compliance with safety standards,
- Liaising with transport unions, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to address public transport challenges,
- Supporting infrastructure development for improved mobility (e.g., bus stops, signage, road safety education).
The department works in collaboration with the Urban Roads Department, the MTTD, DVLA, and private transport operators to enhance urban transport efficiency and safety.
