Mrs. Cynthia Aboni is the Municipal Director of Education at the Okaikwei North Municipal Education Directorate. A seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in administration, leadership, and educational management, she brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to advancing quality education.
She holds a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from the University of Cape Coast and a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) from the University of Ghana. Her academic portfolio also includes a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from the University of Cape Coast and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Mrs. Aboni is a proud alumna of Mawuli School, Ho, and Kpando Secondary School, Kpando, where she obtained her Ordinary Level (O’Level) and Advanced Level (A’Level) certificates, respectively.
WHAT WE DO (DEPARTMENTS’ CORE RESPONSIBILITIES)
The Education Department of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly primarily assists in the formulation and implementation of education policies within the Assembly, within the framework of national policies and guidelines. It also has an advisory role in the Assembly on matters relating to pre-school, primary, and Junior High Schools in the municipality, as well as other matters that may be referred to it by the Assembly.
KEY FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE
The core function of the Directorate is to implement the Government’s pre-tertiary educational policies at the district level, ensuring that all school-going-age children in Ghana are provided with quality formal education. It has been the responsibility of the Directorate to ensure good quality education, access to education, and equitable distribution and/or the provision of school infrastructure by playing the following functions:
- Developing development plans to set the development agenda for education in the Municipality through needs assessment.
- Monitoring the trend of growth of education in terms of academic performance.
- Meeting the needs of education in the Municipality by collecting and analyzing data on educational activities.
- Overseeing equitable distribution of teaching and non-teaching personnel in the Municipality.
- Planning and implementation of training programmes and workshops such as INSETS, CPD, among others to enhance teachers professional development.

Schools under the Education Directorate are categorized into four (4) circuits, namely Achimota, New Achimota, Apenkwa, and Abeka Circuit, with the following level/number of schools:
