The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, has called on Chiefs and residents to ensure a peaceful celebration of this year’s Homowo festival across the Municipality.
According to him, peace was a crucial requirement for achieving meaningful community development. Hon. Badger made the appeal in Accra during the presentation of assorted items worth hundreds of Cedis to Traditional Authorities in support of the 2026 Homowo celebrations
The Okaikwei North MCE said the gesture formed part of the government’s commitment to strengthening the relationship between the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly and Traditional Authorities, in line with the “tripod” approach to local governance involving Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
He said the items were presented on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Mrs. Theresa Lardi Awuni, as part of the annual support extended to Chiefs for the celebration of the festival.
“Every year we support our Chiefs towards the celebration of Homowo because they remain key partners in the development of the Municipality,” he said.
The MCE urged the Chiefs to sprinkle ‘Kpokpoi’ within their respective jurisdictions in accordance with tradition while ensuring the celebrations were conducted peacefully to avoid any confrontations.
He commended the Traditional Authorities in Okaikwei North for the peaceful manner in which they have celebrated the festival over the years and expressed confidence that this year’s celebration would be equally peaceful.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chiefs, the Senior Administrative Stool Secretary of the Abeka Palace, Emmanuel Yartey Boi, thanked the Municipal Assembly and President John Dramani Mahama for the continued support.
He assured the Assembly that the Chiefs would work together to ensure a peaceful and successful Homowo festival throughout the Municipality.
The presentation, spearheaded by the Culture and Tourism Unit of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, included bags of maize, palm nuts, cartons of soft drinks, packs of bottled water, alcoholic beverages and an undisclosed amount of money.
Also present at the ceremony were the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. John Nana Owo; the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Daniel Dzadey; the Municipal Finance Officer; the Municipal Internal Auditor, representatives of Traditional Authorities and Staff of the Assembly.
