The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, on June 30, 2026, led a high-powered delegation to inspect flood-devastated communities within the Municipality following torrential rains that struck the area on June 29.
The visit was aimed at assessing the extent of damage to lives and property after the heavy downpour, which left several homes submerged and disrupted livelihoods across affected Communities.
Authorities assured that the assessment and relief efforts will continue as the Municipality works to restore normalcy and support affected families.
A particularly heartbreaking moment of the visit was when the team called on a bereaved family that lost two children, aged 7 and 9, to the floods at Abofu a suburb in the Municipality.
Hon. Badger expressed deep condolences to the grieving family, describing the incident as tragic and assuring them of government’s support and continued assistance during the difficult period.
The mother of the deceased children has since been recommended for psychological care at the Achimota Hospital to help her cope with the traumatic loss.
The delegation also included the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who urged residents in the affected areas to strictly observe public health and safety precautions in the aftermath of the disaster.
He specifically warned against consuming food items picked from floodwaters, stressing that such practices pose serious health risks.
According to him, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with allied agencies such as NADMO, will intensify response efforts to prevent possible disease outbreaks following the floods.
Hon. Akandoh who is also the Member of Parliament for Juaboso further indicated that Health Workers would be deployed into affected communities to conduct public health education campaigns on sanitation, hygiene, and the dangers associated with contaminated food and water sources.
Also present on the tour were the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. John Nana Owu, Hon James Akogo, the Assemblyman for the Electoral Area, the Municipal Health Director, Municipal NADMO Director, Physical Planning Officer, Urban Roads Officer, and other officials from the Assembly.
