The Chief Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), Revd. Harry Nii Kwartei Owoo, has charged staff of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties to improve service delivery and support the government’s development agenda.
“Professionalism should be the hallmark of all staff. We must serve our clients well, be proactive and responsive to the requests of the people,” he said.
Speaking during a working visit to the Assembly as part of a regional tour, Revd. Owoo urged staff to remain committed to serving clients diligently, be responsive to the needs of the public and make themselves relevant in their respective roles.
He stressed the need for officers to advise residents to do the right thing and ensure the enforcement of laws and regulations to promote orderly development within the Municipality.
The Chief Director further encouraged the Assembly to work towards meeting the compliance indicators under the District Development Data Platform (DDDP) to position itself to access the resources needed for development projects.
He also called for strengthened Internally Generated Fund (IGF) mobilization efforts and the empowerment of sub-structures to enhance revenue generation for the Assembly.
Touching on what he described as the “five (5) Ps” — Purpose, Punctuality, Productivity, Professionalism and Performance — Revd. Owoo said these principles should guide the work of Public Servants.
According to him, leadership is fundamentally about service, noting that his life had been dedicated to serving God and country.
“The position is not merely a title but an opportunity to serve as a servant leader,” he stated, adding that his vision is to support Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and government agencies in driving development across the Greater Accra Region.
He said he was committed to being a transformational and inspirational leader who would support the regional vision and help improve the lives of residents.
The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, expressed appreciation for the visit and commended staff for overcoming numerous challenges to deliver essential services to residents.
He expressed optimism that the Chief Director’s visit would motivate staff to work harder and improve performance.
For his part, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. John Nana Owu, appealed for the posting of an officer to support the Assembly’s Development Planning Unit.
Revd. Owoo recently assumed office as Chief Director of GARCC, succeeding Madam Lillian Baeka, who retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age.
He brings to the position decades of public service experience gained through various roles in national development.
The Regional Tour is aimed at enabling the Chief Director to familiarise himself with the operational activities, development priorities and challenges facing the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies. It also provides an opportunity for direct engagement with management and staff to discuss strategies for enhancing service delivery and accelerating the implementation of government policies and programmes.
