The Culture and Tourism Unit of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly has donated assorted Ga language textbooks to the Anumle Cluster of Schools in the Municipality.
The donation forms part of efforts by the Assembly to promote and enhance the teaching and learning of the Ga language and its related culture in schools within the Municipality.
Presenting the books on behalf of the Assembly in Accra on Thursday, September 10, 2026, Madam Georgina Akambasi said the Assembly was committed to supporting the teaching and learning of the Ga language and promoting the rich cultural heritage associated with it.
Receiving the books on behalf of the Education Directorate and the Anumle Cluster of Schools, Madam Cynthia Aboni expressed appreciation to the Culture and Tourism Unit of the Assembly and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, for the gesture.
She noted that it was a policy of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for schools to study one or two Ghanaian languages, but expressed concern that the teaching and learning of the Ga language in the Municipality was on the decline.
Madam Aboni said the donation would help improve the teaching and learning of Ga, particularly among pupils, and indicated that plans were underway for similar books to be donated to other schools in the municipality.
She appealed to societies, corporate institutions and philanthropists to support schools with Ga storybooks, workbooks and other relevant learning materials to promote the language.
A Ga language teacher, Mr. Eustace Abbey, expressed optimism that the donation would contribute significantly to improving pupils’ oral and written proficiency in the language.
He said access to appropriate textbooks and other learning materials would encourage pupils to develop greater interest in learning and speaking Ga.
Staff of the Assembly, Headmistress of the Anumle Cluster of Schools, Teachers, and students were present at the presentation ceremony.
