The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, has called on residents to help sustain the sanitation gains made in the Municipality , stressing the need for collective efforts to maintain a clean environment.

He said sanitation remained a key priority under President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, urging residents to support the Assembly’s efforts to improve cleanliness and waste management.

Speaking to the media at a town hall meeting organised by the Development Planning Unit of the Assembly in Accra on Tuesday in the Okaikwei Central Constituency, Hon. Badger disclosed that the Assembly had procured one thousand (1,000) dustbins to strengthen its sanitation drive.

He explained that the initiative would promote waste segregation in schools, with each school expected to receive five different dustbins to encourage the proper separation of waste.

According to him, the initiative would also make recycling easier and instill responsible sanitation habits in schoolchildren.

He expressed optimism that the children would transfer the knowledge acquired to their parents and other household members, thereby extending the impact of the project beyond the schools.

Hon. Badger urged residents to complement the Assembly’s efforts by keeping their surroundings clean and adopting proper waste disposal practices to sustain the sanitation gains made in the Municipality.

The Okaikwei North MCE further indicated that revenue mobilised by the Assembly was used to support development projects, including the construction of schools, hospitals, and called on residents to support the government’s development agenda.

He also disclosed that work was underway on a 24-hour Economy Market at the Achimota Bus Terminal, which is expected to give the Municipality the needed economic boost.

He urged residents to have confidence in the Assembly and cooperate with it to achieve its development objectives.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr John Nana Owu, called for more Town Hall Meetings and public forums to inform residents about the Assembly’s programmes, policies and projects.

He also urged traders and opinion leaders to educate residents on the importance of paying revenue to authorised Assembly staff to support development initiatives.

For his part, Nii Doodoo, the Abeka Gyasetse and Chairman for the event, emphasised the role of Chiefs in Community development, describing Traditional authorities as key stakeholders in the progress of every Community .

He assured the Assembly of the Chiefs’ readiness to partner with it to promote development but advised the Assembly to engage Traditional leaders regularly on issues affecting their communities.

As part of the meeting, officials from the Health Directorate educated participants on breast cancer awareness, while the Works Department, Urban Roads Department and Education Department briefed residents on their respective programmes and projects.

The town hall meeting brought together key stakeholders in the Okaikwei Central Constituency, including Chiefs, Religious Leaders, Traders, Educationists, Assembly Members and residents.

The engagement was organised to deepen democracy, bring governance closer to the people and solicit their input into the Assembly’s development plans.

The engagement also formed part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Assembly and residents in addressing sanitation challenges and advancing development in the Municipality .

Participants took turns to ask questions ranging from Health. Education, Sanitation, Social Services, 24 Hour Economy among others.
